Whitehall RFC Child Protection Policy

At Whitehall RFC, we believe that taking part in our sport should be a positive and enjoyable part of children's lives. We want to make sure that children are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm while they are with the club's coaches, helpers and other volunteers. In order to do this we have these aims:

  • All coaches will be qualified to the preliminary award level.

  • We will attempt to have as many female coaches as males.

  • The section will encourage the Coaches to stay up-to-date with rugby coaching and child protection issues.

  • All Coaches will be given a copy of the Club's code of conduct for coaches and the coaches will be expected to keep to the Code of Conduct at all times.

  • We shall keep written records of all contacts, parental consent and any accidents.

  • We will bring to the attention of everyone the policy covering the Fire Procedures, Telephone Access and First Aid Procedures.

  • As a club we will promote "Fair Play" and always play within the Laws and the spirit of the continuum

  • We will identify a person whose role is to deal with any concerns about physical, sexual or emotional abuse within the club. This person's title shall be " Child Protection Officer"

Child Protection Policy - Coaches Code of Conduct

Remember that Children play for fun and enjoyment, and that winning is only part of it.

Ensure that contact and Weight lifting skills are taught in a safe, secure manner, paying all due regard to the physical development of the Young Players and Weight trainees.

Never allow Young Players to play or Train when injured.

Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct and advocate are appropriate to the age and ability of the Players and Weight trainees.

Avoid overplaying of Players. All Players need and deserve equal opportunity to play.

Rugby always works best when both sides are evenly matched. Coaches must insist on mixing and matching ill matched teams.

Always teach Young players by your own example to respect the decisions of the Referee.

Coaches should never openly criticise Players or use language or gestures that may cause the Player(s) to lose self-esteem or confidence.

Never ridicule or belittle any Player.

Coaches owe it to themselves and Players to do their absolute best to:

  • Start and Finish on time.

  • Plan their season.

  • Plan their sessions.
